Punctate mitochondria of cccp-treated cells are mobile, reach and maintain close proximity, but do not fuse. Shown is a selected region of a cell treated with 10 µM cccp for 4h. The dynamics of mtRFP-labeled mitochondria was followed for 53 min. The elapsed time is indicated in mm:ss. Acquisition interval, 30 s; exposure time, 0.2 s; and movie speed, 6 frames/s (3 min/s).
After removal of cccp, fusion is restored and mitochondria reacquire a tubular morphology. Cells were treated with 10 µm cccp for 4h. Shown is a selected region 1h after cccp-removal (time 00:00). The dynamics of mtRFP-labeled mitochondria were followed for 58 min. The elapsed time is indicated in mm:ss. Acquisition interval, 30 s; exposure time, 0.2 s; movie speed, 6 frames/s (3 min/s).
