E.coli lysate is insufficient to polymerize microtubules. Microtubule polymerization is visualized over time in the absence of motor (Row 1), in the presence of Nod318-GFP purified from E.coli Lysate, (Row 2) or in the presence of diluted E.coli Lysate expressed without Nod (Rows 3-5). Note that the only individual MTs polymerized are those polymerized in the presence of purified Nod.
