Cx43 induces Smad2 for nuclear translocation. Movie of time-lapse recordings at display rate of 3frames/s shows subcellular distribution of Smad2 in HeLa cells stably expressing GFPSmad2. Cells were transfected with 1 µg of Cx43 expression vector together with 10 ng of pcDNA.3.1.mRFP1, which served as a transfectant indicator. After transfection, cells were incubated for 4 h and then imaged under a fluorescence microscope (IX71, Olympus). Images of cell transiently expressing Cx43 (top right) and non-expressing cells (bottom) were taken with a 0.03-s exposure at 30-min intervals with 14 optical sections.
