About the Cover

Cover Figure

The image depicts fission yeast cells depleted in the function of actin-depolymerizing protein Adf1. Reconstructed three-dimensional images of the cells stained with phalloidin (yellow), anti-tubulin (magenta), and DAPI (blue) are shown. During anaphase, Adf1-depleted cells were not able to form the contractile ring and had a few thick F-actin bundles in the medial region of the cell. Cytokinesis was impaired in those cells (right bottom cell). This indicates that depolymerization of actin is required for formation of the contractile ring during cytokinesis in fission yeast. See the full article by Nakano and Mabuchi on p. 1933
