About the Cover

Cover Figure

Xenopus early-blastula embryos exhibiting loss of cell adhesion when the ephrin receptor EphA4 is activated. Over the course of 6 hours, the blastomeres first internalize their apical pigment granules, and then they lose tight contact with their neighbors and collapse into the underlying blastocoel cavity of the embryo. Embryo cell division is unaffected, and the phenomenon is fully reversible. Similar results are seen with ectopic expression of the GTPase-binding/CRIB domain of the p21-GTPase-activated kinase, xPAK1. See the full article by Bisson et al. on p. 1030 of this issue of MBC.
