About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cell fusion kinetics in the epidermis of the developing Caenorhabditis elegans embryo. Disassembly of individual cell-cell junctions was simultaneously quantified using a new semiautomated method. Six junctions are color-coded, and the sigmoidal kinetics of syncytiogenesis are shown in the cell fusion roadmap in the center. Simultaneous analyses of several cell fusion events in live embryos show that in each embryo there is no fixed pioneer fusion event and the lag and fusion times are independent and random.
