About the Cover

Cover Figure

It has been proposed that E-cadherin-based adherens junctions play an important role in development of epithelial cell polarity. The cover image shows the presence of an apical, bile canalicular lumen (in green) formed between two mutant human hepatoma HepG2 cells that cannot form E-cadherin/β-catenin-based cell-cell junctions. The lumen is immunolabeled with antibodies against the resident canalicular protein MRP2 (green), and cell nuclei are stained with Hoechst and depicted in red. The fluorescent image has been laid over the corresponding phase contrast image. See the article by Théard et al. on p. 2313 of this issue of MBC.
