About MBC in Press

MBC In Press is a version of Molecular Biology of the Cell (MBC) that provides peer-reviewed research quickly and barrier free. Manuscripts appear in MBC In Press approximately 1 week after acceptance for publication in the online and print versions of Molecular Biology of the Cell. MBC In Press allows important research to be disseminated to the research community without delay.

MBC In Press is citable and establishes publication priority. The official publication date appears below the article title; for example Mol. Biol. Cell. January 6, 2003, followed by the Digital Object Identifier (DOI), a number that is unique to that specific article as an identifier for intellectual property in the digital environment (e.g., 10.1091/mbc.E03-03-0179).

A sample citation for a MBC In Press article follows:

Martchenko, M., Alarco, A-M., Harcus, D., and Whiteway, M. Superoxide Dismutases in Candida albicans: Transcriptional Regulation and Functional Characterization of the Hyphal-induced SOD5 Gene. Mol. Biol. Cell 10.1091/mbc.E03-03-0179.

After a manuscript is published on MBC In Press, it proceeds through copyediting and preparation for publication in MBC Online and in the print version of MBC. The production process can take up to 8 weeks. The final version of the article will show the MBC In Press publication date and will be cited with date, volume, page numbers, and DOI.

A sample citation for the final, collated version of an article that was published on MBC In Press follows:

Martchenko, M., Alarco, A-M., Harcus, D., and Whiteway, M. Superoxide Dismutases in Candida albicans: Transcriptional Regulation and Functional Characterization of the Hyphal-induced SOD5 Gene. Mol. Biol. Cell 15: 456-467. First Published on November 14 2003; 10.1091/mbc.E03-03-0179.

After final publication, MBC In Press articles will be removed from the active index and stored in an accessible, permanent electronic archive. Readers will be able to link to the unedited version of this article through the DOI.
