Scope

Unicellular eukaryotic parasites construct a variety of specialized organelles to achieve specific functions related to parasitism: swimming, gliding, attachment, penetration into host cells, envelopment into structures that shield from host assaults, nutrient scavenging, energy production, and cell division. Revealing the structure and function of these organelles has tremendous implications for understanding the evolution of parasitism as well as basic cellular processes. In this special issue of Molecular Biology of the Cell, focused on the exotic organelles in unicellular parasites, we aim to highlight research investigating molecular and cellular features of these fascinating organisms. Our goal is to draw attention to new vistas and inspire new research directions in the cell biology of eukaryotic organelles.

Research Topics

Submissions are welcomed in a variety of areas including:

  • Host-parasite Interaction
  • Parasite motility and invasion
  • Host cell remodeling and adaptation
  • Nutrient uptake and catabolism
  • Metabolic pathways

How do you believe MBoC can benefit researchers?
